An exhibition of upcycled and repurposed works feature in an exhibition titled, OUT: Not down, IN: Now up, heralding the reopening of the Crows Nest Gallery.
The exhibition, which runs to March 6, celebrates not only the works of district artists, but also the unwavering commitment of the volunteers who assist the gallery and its dedication to exhibiting creative pursuits.
The exhibition marks the first public display of works at the Crows Nest Gallery since the facility's unplanned closure at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
OUT: Not down, IN: Now up is the artists' response to their practice during the pandemic lockdown.
Most of the works were produced during periods of community isolation, during which the artists did not travel to replenish their preferred art materials.
The results include upcycled and repurposed works that highlight how individual creativity flourished despite unique obstacles.
Julie Sweeney expressed her resourcefulness via a pre-loved denim coat with overstitching (Sashiko technique), while Lorayn Walcroft recycled branches from an apple tree.
