Ministerial decisions under section 47(8) of the Australian Research Council Act 2001 and update on new Research Security Framework.
On 14 May 2026, the Minister for Education, the Hon Jason Clare MP, informed the Parliament he has made decisions to refuse funding for 13 grant applications under the Australian Research Council's (ARC) National Competitive Grants Program for reasons relevant to the security, defence or international relations of Australia. These decisions have been made under section 47(8) of the Australian Research Council Act 2001 (ARC Act). Decisions related to:
- Six Discovery Projects 2026 (DP26) applications
- Two Linkage Projects 2025 Round 1 (LP25R1) applications
- Two Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities 2026 (LE26) applications
- Three Linkage Projects 2025 Round 2 (LP25R2) applications.
For national interest reasons, no further public details of the individual grant applications, institutions or researchers involved in the decisions under section 47(8) of the ARC Act will be provided.
