Today, Administrator Samantha Power and Ireland's Tánaiste, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Minister for Defence, Micheál Martin, announced an expansion of the U.S.-Ireland development cooperation partnership to advance food security in Zambia.
Building off a successful partnership in Malawi that galvanized support to help smallholder farmers, the United States and Ireland will work together and with local partners to advance food security in Zambia, with a particular focus on food systems and new strategies to reduce poverty and malnutrition. The United States and Ireland are exploring ways to improve outcomes by leveraging private investments to raise food safety standards, enhance skills for climate action, and increase investment in climate adaptation.
Administrator Power and Tánaiste Martin announced the expanded partnership in Zambia during an event in Washington, DC, building on USAID commitments to further food security, an issue that was discussed during President Joe Biden's visit to Ireland last year. This partnership represents the United States and Ireland's shared values, leadership, and commitment to people facing severe malnutrition and threat of famine.
