In a significant milestone for Australia's vaccine rollout, last week (12 to 18 July) we surpassed 10 million vaccine doses administered across the country. This included the last million doses delivered in only 8 days.
Last week had the highest daily increase in doses administered on 15 July, at 175,002 recorded doses-close to 10,000 more than the previous record. This was also a new record day for doses in primary care, at 99,412, which takes primary care vaccinations past 5 million doses. It also reflects the participation now of more than 1000 General Practices in administering Pfizer, with more to join this month.
State and territory clinics have now administered more than 4.4 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
More than 7 million people in Australia have now received first dose protection. This includes over 75 percent of people aged 70 and over, over 67 per cent of people aged 60 and over and over 59 percent of people aged 50 and over.
There are opportunities to further accelerate the rollout this week, as our supply of Pfizer triples to one million doses per week.
We continue to support the delivery of vaccinations in NSW, where they are currently managing an outbreak response. Throughout week 21, we've administered more than 360,000 doses in NSW-approximately an 18 per cent increase in doses administered compared to last week.
Victoria has also experienced an increase of approximately 7 per cent in week 21 compared to week 20.
Supplying and producing the vaccine
The ability to manufacture vaccines onshore has been essential to the progress of our rollout and CSL has now manufactured and supplied over 11.5million doses of vaccine for use in Australia.
Last week, over 500,000 doses of Pfizer and 500,000 doses of AstraZeneca were released for distribution.
Over the coming days, the Therapeutic Goods Administration will conduct sample testing of close to 1 million doses of Pfizer vaccine, prior to releasing the vaccines for distribution.
Distributing the vaccine
With support from our Distribution Partners DHL and Linfox, more than 1.3 million vaccine doses were delivered across Australia to metropolitan, rural and remote locations, along with 2683 deliveries of consumables.
- Ordering and Delivery. 99.9 per cent of vaccine orders were completed last week with two orders to be finalised today.
- Australia's assistance to the Pacific. This week another 120,000 doses were made available for distribution to the Pacific. In the coming week, another 120,000 doses will be made available, taking the total to more than 860,000 doses provided to DFAT. This will help our friends across the Pacific, including Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Samoa and Tuvalu.
Administering the vaccine
This week, more than 950,000 doses were administered across the country, taking the total number of doses administered 10.1 million. It took 47 days to reach our first million doses of vaccine administered and 8 days for the most recent.
- Total sites. This week we had a total of 5,123 General Practices, 136 Commonwealth Vaccination Centres (CVC), 118 Pharmacies and 158 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) delivering vaccines, along with 870 state and territory sites, taking the total number of vaccination sites across the country to over 6,400. In the coming week, we will have 5 additional General Practices administering AstraZeneca.
- Primary Care transition to Pfizer. This week we will have over 1250 General Practices, 118 CVC and over 80 ACCHS administering Pfizer, along with the State and Territory clinics.
- Aged Care. With our vaccine workforce service providers, we continue to focus on those most at risk in our residential aged care facilities, and have now completed first and second dose visits to all 2,566 facilities, while continuing to conduct roving clinics across VIC and NSW.
- Disability. We continue to ramp up our visits to disability residents with complex needs who require in-reach services. More than 14,700 people with a disability in a residential setting have now received at least one dose of vaccine, with additional vaccine workforce providers on board to accelerate the rollout in the coming weeks.
