Homicide Squad detectives are appealing for public assistance after seizing a vehicle believed to have been used in the murder of a man in Sydney's west last year.
About 11.10pm on Friday 6 August 2021, emergency services were called to Boundary Road, Chester Hill, following reports shots had been fired.
Upon arrival, officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command located an injured 25-year-old man.
He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition and has since been released.
A short time later, emergency services attended Rhodes Avenue, Guildford, following reports a man had been shot.
A man was located with a gunshot wound and treated by paramedics, however, he died at the scene.
He has since been formally identified as 22-year-old Granville man, Shady Kanj.
Initial inquiries were conducted by officers from Cumberland Police Area Command before detectives from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Shepherd.
As part of ongoing investigations, police seized a Lexus CT200H hatchback from a home in Auburn about 10am yesterday (Wednesday 27 April 2022) and have released CCTV depicting the vehicle travelling to and from the Chester Hill area on the night of Mr Kanj's murder.
Homicide Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, said police suspect the hatchback has undergone a deliberate change of colour following the murder.
"We believe the Lexus was 'wrapped' in nylon black film when it was used in the murder of Mr Kanj and has since had that removed to evade the attention of police," Det Supt Doherty said.
"Detectives have released CCTV vision of this vehicle – coloured black – on the night Mr Kanj was shot last August, and additional images that depict most of this dark wrapping removed in the months following.
"We are confident someone would've noticed this vehicle in the days and months after the murder; particularly because it was coloured white but had an individual black panel still visible.
"The car will be subject to an extensive forensic process as we continue to examine its links to the murder and any other criminal activity.
"I encourage anyone with information about the Lexus or its occupants or movements to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000," Det Supt Doherty said.
