Village For Young Families: Early Years Expo Returns

Townsville families will have the opportunity to connect with local support services, access valuable resources and celebrate the city's youngest residents when Council's Early Years Expo returns for the first time in close to a decade.

This free community event, being held at Townsville Stadium in Annandale from 9am to 1.30pm on Saturday, 17 October, will bring together early years service providers and market stallholders for a fun day out for local families.

Townsville Deputy Mayor Suzy Batkovic said the Early Years Expo's return would bring families together and help them discover the support available in the community.

"Raising young children takes a village, and the Early Years Expo is about helping families find theirs," Cr Batkovic said.

"It's a chance to meet with local organisations, learn about available support and discover services that can help during those important early years.

"Families can also enjoy a day out together and celebrate the city's youngest residents."

The popular Welcoming Babies Ceremony will also be held as part of the Expo, offering families the opportunity to officially welcome their newest family members into the Townsville community.

Cr Batkovic said the ceremonies, which will be officiated by Mayor Nick Dametto, were a meaningful way to celebrate the next generation of Townsvillians.

"Every child born in our city is part of Townsville's future, and the Welcoming Babies Ceremony is a wonderful way to recognise and celebrate them," she said.

"It's a simple but meaningful way to welcome families and remind them they are an important part of our community."

Registration for the Welcoming Babies Ceremonies has now closed due to high demand, however a waitlist is available for the next ceremony in May 2027 for families wishing to register their interest.

No registration is required to attend the Early Years Expo, with all families and community members invited to attend.
