VIPER charge Nomads chapter president

Officers from the VIPER Taskforce charged a member of the Nomads OMCG this morning after locating drugs and weapons during a Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO) search.

Members of the taskforce had been at the Ballarat property executing the FPO search on a Ballarat man, who is believed to be a chapter president of the Nomads outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG).

They subsequently seized a quantity of what appears to be cocaine, and three prohibited weapons - a pair of knuckle dusters and two edged weapons.

The 32-year-old Ballarat man was charged with possess traffickable quantity drug of dependence, three counts of possess prohibited weapon and breach of bail.

He will appear at Ballarat Magistrates' Court today.

The VIPER Taskforce is a tactical and investigative unit based within Crime Command focused on preventing, detecting, deterring, disrupting and dismantling the criminal activities of groups such as outlaw motorcycle gangs, organised crime networks and street gangs.

The taskforce, which commenced in July 2022, supports the work of specialist investigation units and regional police by providing further investigation tactics and enforcement actions.

VIPER is an acronym for visibility, intelligence, prevention, enforcement and reassurance.
