Future growth in Wyee will be guided by a new long-term vision, following Council's recommendation to adopt the updated Wyee Structure Plan.
The plan replaces the previous Wyee Structure Plan adopted in 2009 and sets a framework for housing, jobs, transport and infrastructure over the next 20 years. It will help guide growth around the Wyee town centre and railway station, while protecting environmental assets and the area's valued character.
Lake Macquarie Mayor Adam Shultz said the plan would help ensure future growth was carefully managed and supported by appropriate infrastructure.
"As Wyee continues to grow, we want to make sure roads, community facilities and services grow with it, rather than trying to catch up later," Mayor Adam said.
"People tell us they value Wyee's natural surroundings, its sense of community and its convenient location. This plan is about helping the area grow while protecting those qualities."
"We want Wyee to remain a well-connected community where people can access housing, jobs, services and public transport close to home, while maintaining the character and environmental values that make the area unique."
The updated plan responds to significant growth in the area, changing planning priorities and emerging opportunities for housing, employment and infrastructure investment. It also identifies opportunities to improve walking and cycling connections and guide future infrastructure delivery.
Also at Monday night's meeting, Council recommended approval of a development application for alterations and additions to an existing dwelling at 186 Tobins Road, Mandalong.
Following the Standing Committee Meeting, Council entered an Extraordinary Council Meeting and chose a reconstruction option for the Council Chamber to be delivered in conjunction with the Administrative Centre Reconstruction Project. The work involves extending the Administrative Centre to accommodate a new internal access ramp between the Council Chamber and reception area, rotating the Chamber layout relative to the public gallery, retaining approximately half of the existing car park, removing the chair lift and installing new video displays for both the gallery and Chamber floor.
The recommendations align with Council's long‑term planning, which is shaped by the community's priorities for a diverse and thriving economy, connected communities and protection of the natural environment.
