  • Forum to assist Goldfields businesses compete for State contracts, worth more than $30 billion per year
  • Western Australian Government committed to boosting regional economies and creating jobs
  • The WA Industry Link Regional Communication Forum will be hosted in Kalgoorlie on Wednesday, October 6 to provide businesses with information about upcoming Western Australian Government contract opportunities.

The State Development, Jobs and Trade Minister Roger Cook will address the forum, which provides small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) the opportunity to hear directly from WA Government agencies about local contract opportunities in the Goldfields.

The forum will assist regional SMEs to gain a better understanding of how to benefit from the State's estimated annual $30 billion spend on goods, services and works.

SMEs will receive information related to government initiatives, including the Western Australian Industry Participation Strategy (WAIPS), the updated WA Buy Local Policy 2020 and the Local Capability Fund.

Details of upcoming project pipelines, how to access these contracts and the latest regional policy sourcing information will also be discussed, with speakers from both the Department of Finance and Department of Training and Workforce Development attending.

Kalgoorlie marks the fifth forum in the 2021-22 schedule, with forums already held in Bunbury, Karratha, Port Hedland and Esperance. A total of 13 forums will take place within the schedule, with all nine regions hosting a forum as part of the ongoing commitment to boost regional economies and create jobs.

The McGowan Government will be hosting Regional Communication Forums in Broome and Derby on October 13 and 14 with Albany closing off the calendar year in November.

As stated by State Development, Jobs and Trade Minister Roger Cook:

"Around $30 billion worth of State Government contracts are available to apply for each year, and our aim is to see every single one of those contracts go to local WA businesses.

"The Regional Communication Forums play a vital part in that process, creating more jobs for Western Australians, and strengthening our local communities."

As stated by Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:

"This is a great opportunity for small and medium sized businesses to understand how they could benefit from the State's estimated annual $30 billion spend on goods, services and works.

"I would encourage all Kalgoorlie businesses to attend the local forum and ensure they are fully prepared to compete for available State Government contracts."
