WA Saddles Up For Chinese Lunar New Year Celebrations

Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations return this February, bigger and brighter than ever, with the traditional greeting of "Gong Xi Fa Cai" ("wishing you prosperity and wealth") being exchanged.

The Year of the Horse will begin on Tuesday, 17 February, ushering in celebrations worldwide as communities come together to mark this significant cultural event.

Western Australians will join in the festivities with exciting events happening across the State.

A highlight is the much-loved annual Perth Chinese New Year Fair, presented by the Chung Wah Association, which returns to Northbridge and Yagan Square on Sunday, 22 February.

The festivities include a spectacular program featuring vibrant lion and dragon dances, delicious cuisine, interactive family activities, and an array of market stalls.

This year is the Year of the Fire Horse, which is characterised by its courage, passion, and dynamic energy.

The Cook Government is proud to support the Perth Chinese New Year Fair with $85,000 in funding through the Office of Multicultural Interests and Lotterywest.

Chinese New Year forms part of Lunar New Year, which is celebrated in countries throughout Asia, including China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Singapore, and the world.
