WA Seniors Week Marks 40-year Milestone

  • WA Seniors Week runs until the 16 November
  • Updated information resource and new website to help seniors navigate services and concessions available to them across WA
  • Celebrations are held annually to acknowledge the contributions that older people make to the Western Australian community

Marking 40 years of celebration, WA Seniors Week begins with the theme "Safe, Connected and Engaged".

The updated Seniors Information Resource booklet includes many new additions, and a new website that will help seniors navigate the wide range of services and concessions available to them.

The resources provide information on a range of topics including housing, health and well-being, aged care services, elder abuse, technology and communication, transport, community groups, concessions and rebates, and end-of-life planning.

In addition, WA Seniors Week, which runs until 16 November, will acknowledge and celebrate the contributions that older people make in the Western Australian community.

This year's WA Seniors Week includes standout events such as the WA Seniors Awards and Have a Go Day, run by the Seniors Recreation Council of WA.

A total of 53 community groups were awarded a share in $85,000 of Seniors Week Community Grants Program funding to host events throughout Western Australia, providing opportunities for people to connect, learn new skills, volunteer, build friendships and keep active.

The Seniors Week Community Grants Program is facilitated by Advocare in partnership with the Department of Communities and Lotterywest.

WA Seniors Card members also continue to have access to a valuable range of State Government concessions and rebates, including on public transport, water rates and local government rates.

The resource will be available in hardcopy at local governments, libraries or community resource centres and local seniors' services across WA in the coming weeks or online at www.seniorsinforesource.wa.gov.au .

As stated by Aged Care and Seniors Minister Simone McGurk:

"WA Seniors Week gives us a chance to recognise our WA seniors and provide seniors an opportunity to connect with others through celebrating their role in our community.

"The updated Seniors Information Resource and a new website will ensure Western Australian seniors have information about all the services and concessions that are available to them.

"We're committed to helping older Western Australians live well and age with confidence."
