Campaspe Shire Council is inviting the community to come together in the spirit of respect, understanding and unity at the 2026 Community Reconciliation Walk, held as part of National Reconciliation Week.

Taking place on Friday 29 May 2026, the walk reflects this year's theme, All In, which calls on all Australians to listen, learn and take meaningful action towards reconciliation.

Delivered in partnership with Echuca College, Njernda Aboriginal Corporation and Victoria Police, the event continues to be a powerful community-led opportunity to recognise the histories, cultures and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The walk is proudly youth-led, with First Nations Leadership Group and VCE Vocational Master students from Echuca College collaborating to play a key role in designing this year's event and bringing fresh voices and leadership to the community's reconciliation journey.

The morning will begin with a Smoking Ceremony at Alton Reserve, before participants walk together through Echuca to the Aquatic Reserve, where the community can enjoy a warm drink over cultural performances, activities and opportunities for connection will continue.

Campaspe Shire Mayor Cr Daniel Mackrell said the event is an important way for the community to come together and show its support for reconciliation.

"The annual Community Reconciliation Walk is a powerful way to bring people together and demonstrate our shared commitment to respect, understanding and unity.

"This year, it's especially meaningful to see young people leading the way from the design through to delivery of the event. Their voices are shaping how we come together, and that leadership is something our whole community can be proud of," Cr Mackrell said.

This year also includes a special recognition of Uncle Keith Hearn, whose vision and dedication have guided the Community Reconciliation Walk for almost a decade and helped strengthen cultural connection across the region.

Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and take part.
