One of the Top End's most popular destinations has opened ahead of schedule, as the thunderous Wangi Falls reopens in Litchfield National Park.
The opening comes after extended wet weather conditions caused significant damage to local park infrastructure, tracks, and bushland. Rangers have been working hard to reopen facilities, and works continue at Wangi to repair the viewing platform.
"Wangi Falls has opened early, and that's a huge win for local businesses, for visitors to the Top End, and for everyday Territorians who rely on our Territory parks for recreation and employment."
"I've always likened Wangi Falls as our answer to Niagara Falls, with over 200,000 visitors each year - and the roaring water, tranquil walks, and unique vantage points offered at Litchfield are second to none."
"I really want to acknowledge all of those involved in getting our parks opened after an exceptionally damaging wet season," Minister Boothby said.
Just last month, a brand-new cafe launched at Wangi Falls while repairs continued. Owned by Narelle Ray and Jorden Kline at J&N Operations, who also operate the nearby Litchfield Cafe, the Wangi Falls Cafe marks the first major commercial investment in Litchfield National Park in some years.
Ms Ray said, "Opening this café at the heart of Wangi Falls is a dream come true. We are committed to honoring the natural beauty of the park while offering a great experience for every guest."
"There's something powerful about enjoying a coffee or a meal while overlooking the falling water. We're thrilled to bring a fresh energy to the café and provide a warm, welcoming pit-stop for everyone exploring Litchfield."
Supported by a contingent of 65 US Marines, the NT Parks and Wildlife team have built on growing interest in Litchfield National Park. Last weekend, the teams came together to install new signage and trail markers along the Table Top Track, as the government seeks to elevate its profile as one of the Territory's great walking tracks.
"We've had US Marines out in Litchfield installing trail markers along the terrific Table Top Track. We've had our croc management team conducting surveys for safety. And we've had rangers working tirelessly to make sure our parks are ready to welcome locals and visitors for the Dry."
Earlier this month, the Finocchiaro CLP Government announced a landmark $10 million investment to upgrade parks infrastructure, building on work already underway to unlock new recreational and commercial opportunities across the Territory's vast parks estate.
"In our year of growth, certainty, and security, we are absolutely backing our Territory parks, and the local businesses, jobs, families - and regions - who rely on them.
