Early in 2026, we'll start major upgrades at Cape Conran Coastal Park. Visitors can look forward to a new drinking water supply and better wastewater facilities, making your stay cleaner, safer, and more comfortable.
New drinking water supply at Cape Conran Coastal Park
The Cape Conran drinking water project will deliver essential infrastructure for the 10 new cabins and the community activity centre at Cape Conran Coastal Park.
The works are part of the Victorian Government's $29 million investment in renewal and recovery works at Cape Conran — a popular destination for camping, fishing, swimming, and outdoor activities on the East Gippsland coastline.
Works starting from March 2026
Planning works for the Cape Conran water project are underway. To complete these important upgrades, Banksia Bluff Campground will have temporary closures from March to September 2026. During this time, the campground may:
- Be fully closed
- Have some campsites closed
- Be fully open during peak visitor seasons
When the campground is closed or partially closed, visitors can still enjoy access to:
- Cape Conran beaches and boat ramp
- East and West Cape day visitor areas
- Lookouts, walking trails and nature experiences
The campsite closures are necessary to keep visitors safe while we upgrade drinking water and wastewater systems. The works will involve:
- Large machinery and equipment on site
- Installation of underground tanks and water pipes
- Construction of supporting infrastructure
Ahead of the works, we have closed online bookings for relevant campsites at the Banksia Bluff Campground from March to September 2026. See below for more details on the temporary campground closures.
Temporary Banksia Bluff Campground closures
The schedule of works and campsite closures will be confirmed in early 2026. Our current planned closures include:
- From Sunday 1 March 2026: Campsites in Loop A and B closed.
- Monday 20 to Thursday 30 April 2026: Campsites in Loop A and B closed.
- Friday 1 May to Saturday 19 September 2026: All campsites closed.
We've scheduled works outside peak visitor periods to help reduce inconvenience.
Please follow all safety signs when visiting during the works. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Other campgrounds remain open across East Gippsland
There are four campgrounds close to Cape Conran Coastal Park that will be open during the temporary closures in the Banksia Bluff Campground:
- Buchan Caves Reserve Campground
- Corringle Foreshore Campground
- Pettmans Beach Campground
- New Thurra North Camping Area
Bookings at these sites and all Parks Victoria bookable campsites are now open online for dates up to 31 August 2026.
