Water Wiser Grants Recipients Announced

MidCoast Council

More than $40,000 in funding has been shared among six local organisations as part of MidCoast Council's 2025 Water Wiser Grants program.

The funding will help the successful schools, community groups and sporting organisations implement water conservation and sustainability projects that will deliver a range of environmental and community benefits.

Council's Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Rob Scott, said the program had once again proven competitive.

"As was the case last year, our panel had to work hard to narrow down the field," said Mr Scott.

"We're thankful to all the organisations that applied and are looking forward to seeing the projects we've funded come to life."

The six organisations that were successful in obtaining funding in 2025 are:

  • Wootton Community Network Incorporated
  • Kindilan Early Childhood Centre
  • Nabiac Show Management Committee
  • Black Head Surf Lifesaving Club
  • St Clare's High School
  • Wingham Brush Public School

Wingham Brush Public School is one of two schools that will be updating their old bubblers with new systems that incorporate water bottle refill taps to improve water efficiency and encourage students to develop the habit of using reusable drink bottles.

Wingham Brush Public School Assistant Principal, Sharon Middleton-Watson, said receiving a Water Wiser Grant was a great outcome for the small public school.

"We are thrilled to receive this grant, which means we can upgrade our bubbler system and support the sustainable use of water at our school.

"This improvement is a wonderful boost for our whole school community and will make a positive difference for years to come."

Other projects involve installing new water tanks to improve rainwater capture and reduce reliance on the town water network.

Drink bottle refill stations will also be installed in several locations to provide greater community access to drinking water.

The Water Wiser Grants program offers eligible organisations across the MidCoast up to $10,000 in co-funding to undertake projects and activities that increase water conservation or sustainability through education, efficiency improvements or awareness-raising initiatives.
