Substance abuse and depression very often go hand in hand, explains a WebMD article where Keith King, professor and head of UC's School of Human Services, is cited as an expert.
King serves as the director of UC's Center for Presentation Science and has spent the past two decades researching mental health issues and preventions.
"Do your research" King says of taking stock of symptoms in oneself and others, relaying that "maybe a third - and that's being generous" of people who have depression seek help. And with substance abuse, he says, "denial is also a huge problem."
