Does your class have what it takes to be a battery recycling champion? Get ready to flex your recycling muscle in the annual City of Casey School Battery Blitz.
The fun recycling competition will run during Term 3 and is open to primary and secondary schools in the City of Casey to see which class or green team can collect the most household batteries for safe recycling.
Families or communities can nominate their teacher or class, who will then be sent the competition details and formally invited to take part.
At the end of the competition, the top three school groups with the highest battery collections will win a pizza party for their students.
Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen said while the competition was all in good fun, there is also an important educational message to the Battery Blitz.
"Batteries placed in kerbside bins or hard waste can cause fires in the collection truck, which is not only dangerous but can also mean the entire recycling load ends up in landfill," Cr Koomen said.
"This competition is helping to spread the message about the safe ways to dispose of household batteries and the simple steps we can all take to recycle right."
