'Winter' Bill Buster is broken promise

Tasmanian Labor

The Premier has confirmed not only is his winter energy efficiency loan scheme not coming until well after winter, some Tasmanians won't receive his 'winter bill buster' discount to offset his massive energy price increase until the end of October.

This is exactly what failing to get the basics right looks like for Tasmanians doing it tough. During a cost of living crisis, the Premier simply has not delivered.

On 30 June his government announced the relief would commence from the next day (Government media release here). Today he's trying to pretend they never announced it, saying it was not going to start until August.

The Premier's Bill Buster will come far too late for many families doing it tough through excessive electricity bills during winter.

On 17 June, the Premier said:

"The Tasmanian Government is taking immediate action to assist Tasmanians through a new Winter Energy Assistance Package" because he understood "it is going to be a difficult winter for many."

If he really understood he'd have ensured his winter support package actually delivered when it was most needed – in winter.
