The Victorian Liberal's plan to sell government‑owned land could put thousands of new homes reserved exclusively for first home buyers at risk - the same cuts‑first approach Angus Taylor is taking to housing across the country.
In October, the Albanese and Carroll Labor Governments struck a landmark deal to unlock more than 66,000 new homes across Victoria, including more than 25,000 reserved exclusively for first home buyers.
The agreement is backed by nearly $2.5 billion in Commonwealth funding, including $2 billion in concessional loans and $499 million in grants.
It includes major housing developments at sites such as the East Werribee Precinct where infrastructure works are due to commence this financial year.
It follows Angus Taylor's promise to cut $4.7 billion from federal housing programs, including Help to Buy, the Housing Australia Future Fund, the New Homes Bonus and Build to Rent incentives.
Whether it's Jess Wilson or Angus Taylor, the Liberals have the same answer to the housing crisis: cuts. Only Labor is getting on with building the homes Victorians need.
Quotes attributable to Federal Minister for Housing Clare O'Neil
"I'm genuinely concerned about the way the Liberals are approaching housing.
"These deals have been made in good faith, government to government, to build affordable homes for first home buyers. That's got to be a good thing - no matter your politics."
