WMO Workshop Focuses on Standardizing Auto Observing Data Collection

The WMO Secretariat is happy to share the outcomes and highlights from the recent WMO Workshop on Standardization of First-mile Data Collection from Automatic Observing Platforms. Hosted at the WMO HQ from February 19 to February 20, 2024, the workshop convened experts and industry leaders to address crucial challenges in the realm of first-mile data collection.

The workshop resulted in key outputs:

  • A statement summarizing the challenges faced by WMO Members in data integration from different Automatic Observing Platforms, expressing the willingness of Members and the industry to work together to ensure interoperability and make system integration easier, and recommending a way forward.
  • A brief meeting report to be submitted to the third session of WMO's Infrastructure Commission (INFCOM-3) to be held in April 2024.

These key deliverables will be available on the event website in early March. WMO will continue to work in partnership to address global societal risks related to extreme weather, climate, water, and other environmental events.

Slides and recordings of day 1 are already available on the event website.
