"We've been through both challenging and inspiring times together, and we've always kept moving forward."
"I'm proud of the contribution I've made and even prouder of what our people have achieved together."
"Working with councillors on what comes next for Wodonga has caused me to reflect on what my own next chapter might look like."
"We have an established executive team and strong foundations, and my focus has always been on building a leadership team with the capability and confidence to guide the organisation through change, including a transition such as this."
"This role has meant a great deal to me and five years is a significant chapter. I feel it's my time to move on and take on a new challenge."
"I'm proud of what we've achieved together as an organisation; moving beyond municipal monitoring, strengthening our finances and building a more united organisation while continuing to deliver for our community."
"I feel I've delivered what was asked of me and can leave proud of that contribution."
Wodonga Mayor Cr Michael Gobel thanked Matthew for his leadership and commitment to Wodonga.
"Matt has helped steer the council through a demanding period, taking on difficult issues with care and always keeping our community at the centre of the work," Cr Gobel said.
"The work to strengthen our financial sustainability has required persistence and tough decisions."
"He has helped put us on firmer ground while building an executive team that can carry that work forward."
"We're grateful for the care and energy he has given to this role and he can be proud of his contribution and the people he has supported along the way."
"Wodonga's growth brings real opportunities, along with important decisions about the services and infrastructure our community needs."
"Our next leader will need to build on our strong foundation, working with councillors and staff to advance Wodonga's growth aspirations and deliver the services and infrastructure our community needs."
