Woman dead; man charged at Katoomba

A man will face court today charged with murder after the body of a woman was found at a Blue Mountains home this week.

About 9am on Tuesday (15 December 2020), police were called to a home on Station Street, Katoomba, following reports of a concern for welfare.

Officers from Blue Mountains Police Area Command attended and upon entering the home, found a 73-year-old man injured. He was unresponsive and treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The body of a 71-year-old woman, known to the man, was found in a bedroom. She is yet to be formally identified.

The man was taken to Katoomba Hospital, under police guard.

A crime scene was established, and detectives have established Strike Force Koonee to investigate the circumstances around the woman's death.

Upon being discharged yesterday, the man was taken to Katoomba Police Station and charged with murder.

He has been refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court today (Thursday 17 December 2020).
