It's pedal to the metal at The Crest in Gledswood Hills, with work on the Open Space and Learn to Ride Facility set to commence next month.
The project will unlock and activate the 48-hectare site, creating a vibrant destination for leisure and recreation while delivering a sustainable, inclusive and well‑connected community asset.
The first stage of work, which will be on 7.4 hectares of the site, will include:
- Bicycle adventure course incorporating learn to ride components;
- Mountain bike trail;
- Amenities and shelter;
- Car parking;
- Kickabout areas; and
- Shared pathways.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said it was exciting to see movement on the project.
"The Crest Public Open Space Master Plan was adopted by Council in December 2021 following extensive consultation with residents and key stakeholders," she said.
"It's fantastic to now see this vision coming to life. The Crest will transform a large parcel of land into a vibrant, accessible and family-friendly space that encourages people of all ages and abilities to get outdoors, stay active and connect with one another.
"As one of the fastest-growing areas in the state, Council is committed to delivering high-quality open spaces that meet our residents' needs, now and into the future.
"This project is about creating places where our community can come together, children can play and learn new skills and families can spend quality time together outdoors. I look forward to seeing the project come to life and watching residents enjoy it for many years to come."
The project has received the following funding:
- $518,650 from the NSW Government's Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure under the Metropolitan Greenspace Program, for the design and delivery of a district-level bicycle facility; and
- $288,805 from the NSW Government's Infrastructure Grants: Sport and Recreation program, to assist with the construction of The Crest Recreation Area.
