- Major milestone for Woodman Point Ammo Jetty project with contract awarded to commence works to modernise critical maritime infrastructure
- Local company Advanteering Civil Engineers selected to deliver the project, supporting more than 100 local jobs during construction
- Cook Labor Government delivering quality infrastructure and services across Western Australia
A major milestone has been reached in the $17.3 million Woodman Point Ammo Jetty project, with local company Advanteering Civil Engineers awarded the contract to commence construction works.
The new safer and modern structure replacing the ageing jetty will provide improved access and reliability for the community for decades to come.
Scheduled for completion next year, it features significant improvements including:
- a 50-metre-long, three-metre-wide T-head, more than doubling the fishing space in deep water;
- greater separation between divers and fishers with a much wider main deck providing a safer environment;
- improved access to the water from the jetty for swimmers and divers via a dedicated ramp and low-level platform; and
- increased protection for the valued marine biota on the existing jetty piles.
Following the completion of detailed design and a comprehensive two-stage tender process, local company Advanteering Civil Engineers was selected to undertake the important project having significant experience in the provision of marine infrastructure including recent work at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour to reclaim land for the new penholder facility.
An initial $11.67 million contract for the construction of the jetty has been awarded with provision for further works with a value of up to $17.3 million to complete the project.
More than 100 jobs will be supported during the construction project, including eight apprentices.
A working group led by the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) and comprising of the City of Cockburn, State Government agencies, Recfishwest, and Fishability continues to guide the jetty replacement project.
The project has planning approval, Traditional Custodians have been consulted throughout the process, and environmental approvals will be finalised before works commence.

As stated by Minister Assisting the Transport Minister Jessica Stojkovski:
"The Woodman Point Ammo Jetty is a landmark popular for swimming, fishing, snorkelling, and scuba diving and is central to one of the busiest coastal recreation locations in the south metro area.
"DTMI undertook extensive consultation with relevant authorities, peak user groups, Traditional Custodians, and the wider community to develop the jetty design that has provided a much safer environment for the variety of users.
"The retention and protection of the existing jetty piles and associated marine and sealife, coupled with the extra separation from fishers and improved access to the water will not only ensure the jetty continues as a popular destination and dive site, but it is also sure to attract more visitors once complete.
"The Cook Labor Government is delivering jobs and quality infrastructure for Western Australians with current and future generations set to benefit from this investment."
As stated by Cockburn MLA David Scaife:
"This is the moment local fishers, divers, and swimmers have been waiting for.
"The contract award means that the new Woodman Point Ammo Jetty is moving from plans to reality.
"While under construction, the project will deliver hundreds of local jobs and training opportunities.
"And once completed, it'll mean more room to fish, safer access to the water, and a better experience for everyone at Coogee Beach."
