A new $45.5 million primary school in the fast-growing northern suburb of Alkimos is another step closer, with the contract for construction awarded and works underway.
Designed by T&Z Architects, Alkimos North East Primary School (planning name) will be built by award-winning commercial construction contractor Crothers Pty Ltd.
With works having recently commenced, the school is scheduled to open for the 2027 school year and will accommodate 540 students from kindergarten to year 6.
The building will include an administration, kindergarten and pre-primary block, library and staff areas, covered assembly, two double-storey teaching blocks, hard and soft landscaping, parking, hardcourts and an oval.
The new school will provide enrolment relief for the nearby Shorehaven Primary School and Alkimos Beach Primary School.
It builds upon the Cook Labor Government's commitment to ensuring WA families have access to high-quality schools, no matter where they live.
It follows the completion of a number of major schools in Perth's northern suburbs, including Eglinton Beach Primary School, which opened in 2025.
As stated by Education Minister Sabine Winton:
"The Cook Labor Government is committed to providing the best education environments and opportunities for students in Western Australia.
"I'm excited to announce the next stage of this exciting new school, which will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the Alkimos community.
"This new school will provide another education option for families and will provide enrolment relief for nearby schools.
"I look forward to seeing how the build progresses."
As stated by Butler MLA Lorna Clarke:
"As a mum, I will always advocate for our schools because I know that education is the best way to prepare our kids for the future.
"I am proud to be part of a State Government that is delivering high-quality education infrastructure for Western Australian families.
"Alkimos is a vibrant and growing community, and I know Alkimos North East Primary School will benefit local families for years to come."
