Works begin on Brighton's new pocket park

We're beginning our works at 7 Well Street, Brighton, to transform the area into a community pocket park.

Over the next 10 weeks, we'll be busy transforming the vacant site into a fabulous passive recreation space for all to enjoy.

The park will showcase a range of over 500 native and indigenous plants, including shrubs, grasses, flowering plants and large trees. Other features include:

  • Outdoor seating
  • two accessible picnic tables
  • bike racks
  • accessible pathways
  • a waste bin
  • pedestrian route through to Church Street.

Council decided to create a pocket park at 7 Well Street, which is just a short stroll from the Church Street shopping precinct, in December 2021, following community support for more public open space in the area.

Our community told us they wanted a passive space for relaxation, sitting and reading at this site during the first phase of community engagement in late 2021.

We undertook further consultation from 16 January - 13 February 2023 to ensure our concept design met community needs and expectations. Community ideas helped shape the detailed design of the pocket park.
