World Environment Day 2021

A webinar to reduce your heating bill, an online seminar to manage the Queensland Fruit Fly invasion and a conservation map highlighting significant environmental sites, are all part of Hobsons Bay's World Environment Day celebrations.

The free events, running from Thursday 3 June to Tuesday 8 June, encourage residents to live more sustainably and protect our fragile ecosystems.

Garden enthusiasts will benefit from an online seminar by entomologist Dan Papacek to keep Melbourne's new pest – Queensland Fruit Flies under control in your home garden. The online My Smart Garden event is on Thursday 3 June, 12.30pm to 1.30pm and will help you confirm identification, delve into their lifecycle and behaviours and look at the management options most suited to home gardeners.

On Tuesday 8 June, join the 'Preparing your home for winter' webinar to find out how to keep your home warm without huge electricity bills. The free online event presented in partnership with Australian Energy Foundation is from 6.30pm to 8.00pm.

Teachers and parents from primary schools, secondary schools and early learning centres from across Hobsons Bay are welcome to attend the Teachers Environment Network meeting on Thursday 3 June 3.45pm to 5.30pm. Discover cutting-edge climate change education resources to help you support climate action in schools and in the community.

Get amongst nature and explore Hobsons Bay's reserves and parks with our conservation map which points out features of significant biodiversity and natural heritage. The map highlights where the elusive Altona Skipper Butterfly is found, the critically endangered Swift Parrot, significant trees such as the Moreton Bay Fig, Sheoaks and many more. World Environment Day is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment held globally on 5 June each year. This year's theme focuses on protecting and restoring our ecosystems.
