Moira Shire Council and GV Libraries today celebrated the official opening of the new Yarrawonga Library, the first stage of the Yarrawonga Shire Hall, Library, Events and Performance Precinct.
The community came together for an opening event to welcome GV Libraries into its new home. It was a wonderful occasion for a town that has long valued its library.
The modern, purpose-built facility gives locals access to the same great programs the library has always offered, and now so much more. It includes community meeting spaces, an events and exhibition area, and access to technology and digital resources not previously available. It is a warm and welcoming place to learn, connect and create.
The library has been a cornerstone of Yarrawonga community life for many years and the new building carries that legacy forward, supported by the Yarrawonga Library Community Fundraising Committee and Friends of the Yarrawonga Library, who worked to raise more than $130,000 for the new library's equipment, furniture and fit-out.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Graeme Emonson said the project was a major milestone for the community.
"This is one of the largest projects we have delivered for the community, and it is wonderful to see it now officially open. A contemporary library is so much more than books. It is a place for people of every age to learn, connect and belong. I congratulate everyone who helped make this happen, and I can't wait to see the community make this space their own."
Community members are encouraged to visit the new Yarrawonga Library and see what's on offer. To hire the multipurpose room please contact Moira Shire Council's Customer Service Centre on (03) 5871 9222.
