Port Macquarie Hastings Council (PMHC) is calling on the community to nominate outstanding local individuals, groups and organisations for the 2027 Citizen of the Year Awards.

The awards will be presented as part of Australia Day celebrations on 26 January 2027, recognising those whose contributions help make the region a better place to live and work.

The Citizen of the Year Awards will also recognise the incredible contributions former Councillor Lisa Intemann had on our community, through a new award named in her honour.

The Lisa Intemann Community Spirit Award was unanimously supported by Council at the October meeting. Serving as a permanent reminder of her outstanding service to the Port Macquarie Hastings, the award will recognise an individual, community group or organisation that has made a significant contribution to community life.

Port Macquarie Hastings Mayor Adam Roberts encouraged residents to nominate a person or group that exemplifies generosity, leadership and community spirit.

"Our region is full of people who dedicate their time, energy and passion to go above and beyond for others. This is what makes our community special. The awards are a great opportunity to shine the spotlight on their contributions and celebrate these remarkable people," Mayor Roberts said.

This year's categories are:

  • Citizen of the Year which recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the Port Macquarie Hastings community

  • Young Citizen of the Year which recognises an outstanding young person aged 25 years or under by 26 January 2027

  • Lisa Intemann Community Spirit Award which recognises an individual, community group or organisation that has made a significant contribution to community life

PMHC Group Manager Community and Customer Experience Lucilla Marshall added: "Nominees can be volunteers, mentors, local clubs or community champions whose efforts are often behind the scenes. By nominating someone, you can help share their story and inspire others to get involved."

Nominations close on Monday 30 November 2026.
