Three Well Known Australians Exhibition

Who do you see in the painting?

In 1982 artist Martin Shaw painted 3 anonymous figures on a bright yellow background and started a guessing game that has continuously toured community venues in Australia since 1983.

His Three Well Known Australians exhibition invites communities to guess the identities of the 3 mysterious figures.

Come along to the Gallery at Greythorn Community Hub from Monday 12 October until Friday 27 November and explore a selection of fascinating letters and responses from Australians from all walks of life, then have a go at guessing who the people are yourself!

Add your interpretation to the 2026 Yearbook and become part of an ongoing snapshot of how Australian identity and perspectives change over time. There are no right or wrong answers - bring your imagination and join the conversation!

The exhibition is brought to you by Boroondara Libraries and the Greythorn Community Hub.
