A host of community groups and sporting clubs are set to benefit thanks to a host of grants approved this week by Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC).
Tuesday's first meeting of Council for 2023 saw approval given for the 2022/23 TRC Youth Grants program with a pool of $10,000 on offer for community groups to run a range of programs to support youth-led projects across the region.
TRC Environment and Community Portfolio Lead Cr Tim McMahon said groups such as the Oakey Junior Cricket Club, Safer Toowoomba Regional Partnerships and Empire Theatres Foundation would benefit from the Youth Grants program.
"Council approved 5 groups to receive funds from the Youth Grants program and I'm delighted these groups are all running projects that are youth-led and aim to give young people from across the region an outlet and the ability to engage in community activities.
"Things such as junior cricket clinics, drama and acting workshops, junior touch clinics and even croquet programs for young people were all supported through the Youth Grants process," Cr McMahon said.
TRC also approved funds through the Sports Tourism Event Grant program with $5,000 granted to Netball Queensland for the 2023 Suncorp Spirit Cup to be held at the Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre in March.
The Suncorp Spirit Cup is a pre-season fixture between Super Netball teams Queensland Firebirds and Sunshine Coast Lightning and was held in Mackay in 2022 with Toowoomba set to host the 2023 event.
