Youth Workshop Advocates Ending Death Penalty

Council of Europe

From 3 to 6 June the third edition of the workshop "Death is not justice - advocacy and awareness-raising for the abolition of the death penalty", organised by the Council of Europe together with civil society partners Ensemble Contre la Peine de Mort (ECPM) and the German Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty (GCADP), will take place in Strasbourg.

The event brings together 50 young people - students, volunteers, and active members of civil society from across Europe - committed to the abolitionist cause. Over four days of engaging in discussions and networking, participants will meet with experts, become familiar with the global situation regarding the death penalty, and explore key challenges related to its abolition. They will also identify advocacy actions to be implemented in the coming year, including at the World Congress against the death penalty, which will take place in Paris in 2026.

The workshop aims to establish a network of young ambassadors to fight for abolition across Europe and beyond. It is part of broader efforts to counter pro-death penalty narratives and contribute to global abolition, in line with the Reykjavik Summit Declaration and the relevant decisions of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers.

The workshop is financially supported by France and Switzerland.
