My family and I moved to Maryborough in 2001. We never considered moving again and I have been contemplating the reason why?

Data shows that immigrants or migrants move at least three times before they settle in a place. Talking to many newer migrants to Maryborough, I cannot but categorically state that it is the people. We, as a family, were welcomed from day one. Maryborough is a friendly place with lovely residents.

Also, it is what you are prepared to bring and give to a place that determines your adjustment in a new town. You have to be prepared to go out and meet people, finding activities, signing up and participating.

With COVID-19 , the Central Goldfields Shire has acquired many new residents moving from Melbourne and elsewhere. New arrivals to the Central Goldfields are unanimous in categorically stating that they "love the town"!!

Which brings me to another thought. What is a community? Community groups, community conversations, community events. Why do we as humans value community? We enjoy sharing a good meal, laughter and friendly conversation, music.

Community is not merely living in close proximity to other people. It is about sharing similar problems and common goals. Being faced by common problems and having similar aspirations. Being willing to share those feelings and thoughts with people near you. Commit to your community by participating in events, working as a volunteer, caring for one another.

It does not only take a village to raise a child, in many ways it takes a village for each of us to live our lives to the fullest.
