2020 Youth Council Announced

12 young people from across the municipality were inducted into the 2020 Youth Council at City Hall on Thursday night following their selection earlier in the month.

The Youth Councillors will serve as an official 'youth voice' for Council as they discuss social and community connections, the environment, mental health and wellbeing, and capability; such as skill development, education and employment.

Youth Council includes three representatives from each of the four wards, with ages ranging from 12 years to 17, adding to the diversity of ideas and opinions on various topics.

Former Junior Mayor Josie Horne and fellow 2019 Youth Councillors Carmen MacLeod, Elkin Wittenberg, Logan Chandler, and Matty Pisotsky have been re-elected after a successful first year in 2019.

The returning councillors will be able to guide new members and ensure that the Youth Council continues with the momentum gained in the previous year as they discuss the issues and ideas raised at the 2019 inaugural Youth Summit.

The issues revealed at the 2019 Youth Summit will be used to assist the 2020 Youth Council in making recommendations to council around mental health and wellbeing, community safety, and the environment.

As part of Geelong's UNESCO City of Design commitment, the Youth Summit uses design thinking to tackle Youth Council's priority issues.
