2023 WA Gold Medal Award

The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) is pleased to announce the winner of the 2023 WA Gold Medal Award is Frank Cooper AO FAICD.

The Gold Medal is awarded in recognition of Mr Cooper's significant contribution to corporate life in Western Australia and the wider WA community.

Mr Cooper has a distinguished career in business and extensive experience serving as a Non-Executive Director. His current directorships include Woodside Petroleum, South32, Wright Prospecting and St John of God Health Care, where he is also a Trustee. He was previously Chair of the Insurance Commission of WA.

Frank has more than 35 years in corporate taxation, specialising in the mining, resources and utilities sectors, including senior leadership roles at three of the major accounting firms and director of a leading Australian utility company.

He is Chair of Woodside's Audit & Risk Committee and a member of Human Resources & Compensation and Nominations & Governance Committees.

Throughout his career, Frank has been highly involved in community activities, including serving as Commissioner and Chair of the West Australian Football Commission and as a WA State Health Research Advisory Council member.

In 2014 Mr Cooper was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia and he was named West Australian of the Year in the Professions category in 2015.

Presenting the Gold Medal Award at the AICD Annual Lunch in Perth, WA Division Council President Jane Cutler congratulated Mr Cooper and said the award was due recognition for his outstanding record of corporate and community service.

"Frank's listed company experience and expertise in capital management and corporate development are highly valued by the Boards he serves on and he brings exceptional skills to all the Board and Committee roles he performs."

Mr Cooper thanked the AICD for affording him the recognition and said he was extremely gratified to receive the award.
