The 2024-25 National Pollutant Inventory (NPI) data is now live. It shows pollutants released to air, land and water in your area.
Each year, more than 4,000 industrial facilities report how much of certain toxic substances they emit or transfer for waste management.
Why the NPI matters
The NPI gives you easy to use data that helps:
- communities understand local sources of pollutants
- governments make better environmental decisions
- researchers analyse trends and identify emerging issues.
The NPI provides information for 93 substances, from common pollutants like nitrogen oxides to less visible chemicals. You can search by substance, facility or location to see what is happening in your area.
Where the data comes from
The NPI is a shared program between the Australian Government and state and territory governments. State and territory agencies collect the data from facility operators. We collate and publish the data on the NPI website.
