- Social Housing Accelerator funding builds on Cook Government's record $2.6 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures
- $209.2 million in Federal Government funding to boost WA's housing delivery
The Cook Government's record $2.6 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures has been further boosted by a $209.2 million injection from the Albanese Federal Government through its Social Housing Accelerator Fund.
Western Australia's share, totalling $209.2 million, will fund the delivery of around 265 additional social homes and enable refurbishments to more than 300 existing social homes across the State.
The Federal Government's $2 billion Social Housing Accelerator will deliver thousands of new social homes for vulnerable Australians, with each State and Territory receiving a share.
The Department of Communities will manage the delivery of the Commonwealth funding in WA, including procurement and contracting for new builds and renovations.
The housing delivery will be prioritised in keeping with demand and rolled out across both metropolitan and regional WA.
The funding received for WA adds to the State Government's record $2.6 billion investment in social housing and homelessness measures, including delivering around 4,000 social dwellings and refurbishments to thousands more.
As stated by Housing Minister John Carey:
"This $209 million investment for Western Australia by the Federal Government builds on our Government's record investment in housing and homelessness measures.
"It's pleasing to see the Federal Labor Government come back into the housing space - after the previous Federal Liberal-National Government completely abandoned it.
"We're using every lever we can to boost social housing, including working to retain ageing social housing properties where possible and investing in alternative construction methods, as part of our reforms to accelerate the delivery of social housing across Western Australia.
"This funding boost backs in and complements our record $2.6 billion commitment in housing and homelessness measures, which will include the delivery of about 4,000 social dwellings as well as refurbishments and maintenance to many thousands more.
"Since our record investment we've added more than 1,760 social homes, with more than 1,000 currently under contract or construction."
