3,739 applicants applied to the international master's programmes at the University of Helsinki commencing in autumn 2026. The most popular programmes were once again the Master's Programme in Computer Science and the Master's Programme in Data Science.
The 2026 application procedure for the University of Helsinki's international master's programmes attracted 3,739 applicants. In addition, around 400 applicants submitted an application but did not pay the application fee, and therefore their applications were not processed. The number of applicants fell by 10% compared to last year, which was in line with the declining national trend.
The most popular of the 33 master's programmes available was the , with as many as 554 applications. The was not far behind with 551 applications, while the received 305 applications.
The received 500 applications this year. This year, it was possible to apply to the for the first time, and it received a total of 295 applications.
44 % of the applicants were admitted
1,626 new students were admitted to the programmes, which means that 44% of the applicants were offered a student place. All applicants have been notified of the results by email.
Students admitted to the international master's programmes come from 90 countries. Almost 79% of those admitted are from outside Finland and over 58% from non-EU and non-EEA countries. In addition to Finland, the highest numbers of admitted students come from China, Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh.
Admitted applicants must accept the offered student place no later than 9 July 2026 at 15:00.
