- $4,980,400 State Government grant for 12 social homes for seniors in Brunswick Junction
- 12 homes delivered by the Shire of Harvey in partnership with Brunswick River Cottages
- More than $246 million in capital grants to deliver and refurbish social housing stock
- Part of the State Government's commitment of $5.1 billion in housing and homelessness services since July 2021
Social housing in Western Australia's South West region has received a recent boost with the completion of 12 more homes for seniors in Brunswick Junction, completed by the Shire of Harvey with the help of a $4.98 million State Government grant.
The social housing development is designed to support older community members to age in place and has been delivered by the Shire in partnership with Brunswick River Cottages Inc.
The project was funded through the State Government's Community Housing Grants Program, under which more than 1,500 new builds and refurbishments of social housing have been contracted to date.
Local South West builder Prosser Built was contracted by Shire of Harvey to deliver the 12 dwellings.
Since the State Government's record $5.1 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures, we've added more than 3,000 social homes with more than 1,000 social homes currently under contract or construction throughout Western Australia.
As stated by Housing and Works Minister John Carey:
"The Community Housing New Build Grants program is a substantial investment to help meet this commitment by enabling the construction of much needed new social housing with a variety of dwelling types and configurations.
"Since July 2021, our government has executed $246 million in capital grants contracts that will provide more than 1,500 new and refurbished homes to the State's stock of social housing.
"The Community Housing New Build Grants is a critical part of our $5.1 billion social housing investment program and is providing critical financial support to the community housing sector to deliver for our State's most vulnerable people."
