Additional outlaw motorcycle gang added to ban

Mark Shelton,Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management

Today additional outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG), the Nomads, has been added to our ban on the wearing of insignia, sending a clear message that crime gangs are not welcome in Tasmania.

Our laws banning the wearing of insignias of five outlaw motorcycle gangs (OMCG) came into force in November 2019, providing Tasmania Police more tools to crack down on OMCGs.

The laws now relate to six OMCGs – Bandidos, Outlaws, Devils Henchmen, Black Uhlans, Rebels and the recently added Nomads.

The legislation applies to an organisation that displays prohibited insignias that causes the public to feel intimidated and threatened.

As the community and economy follow the pathway to recovery from COVID-19 restrictions, the last thing we need is organised crime ripping money out of the pockets of vulnerable people.

The Tasmanian Government therefore makes no apologies for being tough on criminals and will continue delivering our strong plan to keep Tasmania safer from organised crime.
