Adelaide arrest over alleged Pseudo import

The Australian Border Force (ABF) has arrested a 35-year-old man in Adelaide, allegedly involved in the importation of approximately 3,500 pseudoephedrine tablets.

Earlier this year, the ABF intercepted a consignment containing vitamin bottles, which returned a positive test result for pseudoephedrine, a border controlled cold and flu medication that can be used in the illicit manufacture of methamphetamine.

Ongoing interagency investigation with South Australia Police and Australia Post has stopped a further three consignments and uncovered a criminal syndicate believed to be importing pseudoephedrine tablets to multiple metropolitan locations.

Last week South Australia Police and ABF executed a warrant at addresses in the Adelaide area resulting in the arrest.

ABF Inspector Steve Garden commended the diligent work of officers involved in disrupting criminal syndicates who seek to harm the Australian community.

"The importation of pseudoephedrine into Australia is prevalent and the product is utilised in clandestine drug laboratories around Adelaide," Inspector Garden said.

"Our close working relationship with other agencies is pivotal in protecting  the South Australian public who can be re-assured that we are committed to prosecuting those involved in criminality.

"Our investigators carry out relentless enquiries to ensure those involved are put before the courts. We work tirelessly to make the Australian border a hostile environment for those seeking to conduct criminal behaviour."

The man has been charged with three counts of importing a marketable quantity of a border controlled precursor, contrary to s307.12 of the Criminal Code Act 1995, and is remanded in custody.

Members of the community who observe suspicious border-related activity can report it anonymously 24/7 through the Border Watch portal.
