Ag Town of Year nominations extended by week

The nomination period for the 2021 Ag Town of the Year award has been extended with people now able to nominate their favourite town up until Monday 16 August.

The Agricultural Town of the Year award highlights the important role agriculture plays in regional South Australia.

Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development David Basham said the recent COVID lockdown has meant nominations will remain open for another week.

"Nominations for the 2021 Ag Town of the Year will now remain open until Monday, so if you haven't jumped online and nominated your town you now have an extra week to do so," Minister Basham said.

"It's a quick and easy process so head to www.agtown.com.au and nominate your town.

"Agriculture is a critical part of our state and the Ag Town of the Year award highlights the communities that support industries including grains, horticulture, meat and livestock, dairy, grape and wine, forestry, plus fisheries and aquaculture.

"The 2020 winner was the Mallee town of Pinnaroo which was selected from 119 nominations for 70 different towns across eight regions.

"We have so many proud regional communities in South Australia and I look forward to seeing the nominations for this year.

"Our regions matter – they contribute around $29 billion per year to the South Australian economy across a range of industries including farming, fishing, mining, manufacturing and tourism.

"This is why our Government is investing record amounts in regional South Australia to build key infrastructure, drive economic growth and create jobs."

Nominations for this year's award can be made at www.agtown.com.au, closing Monday 16 August 2021.

Nominated towns will then be put to a public vote to help select five finalists who will vie for the title of 2021 South Australian Agricultural Town of the Year.

The winner will be announced at the 2021 Regional Showcase celebration event in November 2021.
