- Cook Government's nation-leading Time to Think program continues to grow with 16 additional beds added bringing the total to 69
- More than 175 patients supported with more than 3,300 hospital bed days freed up
- $9.9 million investment over two years to ease hospital pressures and support older Western Australians
The Cook Government's nation-leading Time to Think program continues to expand across key aged care sites - providing more options for older Western Australians to make decisions about their next steps.
The program has added a further 11 beds, with five more becoming available later this month, increasing the total capacity to 69 beds across multiple aged care homes in Perth.
Since its launch in May, the program has supported more than 175 patients and freed up more than 3,300 hospital bed days - helping older Western Australians who are medically ready to be discharged leave hospital sooner.
The dedicated beds offer older people a comfortable, home-like setting where they can take time to consider their longer-term care options, speak with family, and transition to their new residence.
Participants receive the same high standard of care as other aged care residents, along with tailored support to explore and secure longer-term care options.
The $9.9 million investmentover 2024 to 2026 is part of a broader commitment to improving hospital transitions and aged care pathways in WA.
The Time to Think program is delivered in partnership with the Australian Government and aged care providers.
As stated by Aged Care and Seniors Minister Simone McGurk:
"It is great to see the Time to Think program expanding, meaning even more older Western Australians can benefit from its valuable support.
"We are already hearing from participants and their families that they value having this time and support to make the right choices for their future - it is making a real difference in people's lives.
"Partnering with aged care providers and the Commonwealth ensures we're delivering high-quality, person-centred care across Western Australia."
As stated by Health and Mental Health Minister Meredith Hammat:
"This program is easing pressure on our hospitals while ensuring older Western Australians receive the care they deserve.
"By freeing up thousands of hospital bed days, and now exceeding our original target for dedicated beds, Time to Think is having a real impact across our health system, and the ever-increasing number of patients it supports.
"We're proud to invest in solutions that support better transitions from hospital to aged care - this is smart, compassionate health care."
