Alfredton Primary School students will soon have a safer path to ride, walk and scoot to school.
Students will be presented with decals, which will be placed on designated 'safe footpaths' that children and parents can utilise to ride, walk or scoot to school on Friday 13 March.
The event will also feature bike decorating, colouring-in activities and a bike parade.
The decals were designed by students at an Active Travel workshop, hosted in partnership with the City of Ballarat and the Bicycle Network Ride2School team, in October 2019.
The City of Ballarat's Sport and Active Living team is supporting the initiative as part of its Walk to School month, held each October. The initiative links to the City of Ballarat's Active Women and Girls Strategy, which provides a tailored response to priority issues identified within the municipality that may constrain women and girls from getting involved in sport and physical activity.
The workshop was designed to increase student knowledge of the benefits of active travel and to map out safe walking and cycling routes for the community. It also links to the City of Ballarat's Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2017-2021, which outlines how the City of Ballarat and local health organisations will achieve a higher level of health and wellbeing for the people who live, learn, work and play in Ballarat.
The decals have been funded by the VicHealth Walk to School program.
