The Allan Labor Government needed an additional $15 million to complete the theatre expansion at Blackburn Public Surgical Centre, Freedom of Information documents obtained by the Liberals and Nationals show.
The 53-bed facility, which specialises in general surgery and gynaecological services, required the extra funding to finance a capital shortfall under Minister for Health, Mary-Anne Thomas.
After a decade of financial mismanagement under Labor, Victoria's net debt is set to reach a record $187.8 billion by 2027-28, with interest repayments to exceed $1 million an hour.
Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier, said: "The health system remains in crisis under the Allan Labor Government. This is another example of financial mismanagement which will push Victoria even further into debt and is having an impact on the delivery of frontline health services.
"Victoria should be leading the way with world class health facilities that are delivered on time and on budget, not having to seek additional money after mismanaging budgets.
"Labor cannot manage money, cannot manage the health system and Victorians are paying the price."
