Andrews Must Sack Allan for Humiliating Commonwealth Games Debacle

Liberal Party Victoria

Premier Daniel Andrews must sack Deputy Premier and Minister for the Commonwealth Games Jacinta Allan for her costly and bungled handling of the now cancelled 2026 Games in Victoria.

More than 48 hours after the Andrews Government announced it was cancelling the Games, not a single Minister has taken responsibility for humiliating Victoria on the world stage.

Neither the Premier nor any Minister has apologised to the Victorian people for breaking a key election promise to deliver the Games.

It follows new revelations today that Victoria aggressively pursued the Games in late 2021, undermining claims by the Andrews Government that other states and countries were not interested in holding the Games.

"Daniel Andrews refuses to tell the truth to Victorians about this whole debacle, including how much it will cost taxpayers to break the contract," Mr Pesutto said.

"If ministerial responsibility counts for anything, heads must roll, starting with Jacinta Allan, who continues to oversee costly blowouts on major projects across Victoria.

"The Deputy Premier is guilty of gross incompetence and deceit. She should no longer be a Minister, let alone succeed the Premier when he inevitably steps down."

Mr Pesutto today visited Geelong to meet with local sporting organisations and other community groups who have had their hopes and dreams crushed by the cancellation of the Games. It follows yesterday's visit to Ballarat which was also scheduled to host events in 2026.

The Opposition has called for an urgent investigation by the Victorian Auditor-General to reveal the true extent of costs incurred by Victorian taxpayers as a result of the cancellation of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
