Animal Cruelty Charge

Jurien Bay Police have charged a 49-year-old Jurien Bay man after it is alleged that he shot a neighbour's dog.

It will be alleged that around 12:30pm on Sunday (16 August 2020) a Red Cloud Kelpie x Doberman named Splinter had wandered onto the man's Jurien Bay Vista property. As the owner called the dog back, the man exited his property via the front door and shot the dog with a rifle.

The dog was rushed to the Dongara Veterinary Clinic but died before arriving.

Jurien Bay Police executed a firearms search warrant at the house where it will be further alleged that they seized seven rifles, a shotgun, ammunition and drug paraphernalia.

A 49-year-old Jurien Bay man has been charged with:

- Animal Cruelty - causing an animal unnecessary harm

- 5 counts of Possess unlicensed firearm

- 4 counts of Unlicensed Person Purchase Firearm/Ammunition

- Fail to provide and use adequate storage facilities to ensure firearms or ammunition safety

- Discharged a Firearm to the Danger of or to Cause Fear to the Public

- Possessed any drug paraphernalia in or on which there was a prohibited drug or plant

He will appear in the Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday, 3 September 2020.
