Annual Update on Alzheimer's Disease Lecture at Baylor

As more research emerges, it is hypothesized that Alzheimer's disease begins earlier than first thought, perhaps as early as the third decade of life. Researchers at the Alzheimer's Disease and Memory Disorders Center at Baylor College of Medicine currently are studying better ways to evaluate, diagnosis and treat this debilitating disease and will present the latest research for patients and caregivers at the "Update on Alzheimer's Disease" lecture Nov. 6, a program that is free and open to the public.

The annual event is co-hosted by Baylor and the Alzheimer's Association® Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter. It will take place in Cullen Auditorium on the main campus of Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center, One Baylor Plaza, Houston, TX 77030. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m., and the program will begin at 7 p.m.

Dr. Joseph S. Kass and Dr. Melissa Yu, director and associate director of the ADMDC, respectively, will discuss the latest in Alzheimer's disease research and treatment. Kass is a professor of neurology, psychiatry and medical ethics and associate dean of student affairs at Baylor. Yu is an associate professor of neurology, associate medical director of neurology and physician informaticist at Baylor.

Other representatives and researchers from the ADMDC and the Alzheimer's Association will be on hand to discuss volunteer research opportunities and support programs for those living with or caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease.

Ann Marie McDonald, program director for the Alzheimer's Association Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter, said this is a great time for Alzheimer's related research in terms of federal funding and philanthropic investing. As a co-host of the event she is hoping those who attend this free lecture will learn more about the current state of research and how they might be able to take part in or support current research.

The event is supported in part by the Alzheimer's Association Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter and the Moselle and Milton Pollack Endowed Fund for Alzheimer's Education in the Alzheimer's Disease and Memory Disorders Center at Baylor College of Medicine.
