Appointment of 2021 ARC Advisory Council

The Australian Research Council (ARC) has today announced the appointment of eight members to the ARC Advisory Council for the next three years.

The role of the Advisory Council is to provide the ARC's CEO with relevant advice and perspective from both research and industry, ensuring that ARC direction and activity impacting these sectors is both well informed and considered.

The Advisory Council is chaired by the CEO, currently Professor Sue Thomas. Other external members are appointed on the basis of their distinguished research records or achievements in business research and development.

The 2021 Advisory Council is:

  • Professor Calum Drummond, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Innovation and Vice-President, RMIT University
  • Professor Mark Hutchinson, Director, ARC Centre of Excellence for Nanoscale BioPhotonics, University of Adelaide
  • Ms Su McCluskey, Commissioner, Commission for International Agricultural Research
  • Mr Mark McKenzie, Director, Council of Small Business Organisations Australia
  • Professor Chris Moran, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Curtin University
  • Professor Michelle Simmons AO, Director, ARC Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology, The University of New South Wales
  • Professor Deborah Terry AO, Vice Chancellor, University of Queensland
  • Emeritus Professor Maggie Walter, Commissioner, Yoo-rrook Justice Commission, Victoria

Two members from the previous Advisory Council - Professor Deborah Terry and Mr Mark McKenzie - have stayed on for a second term to provide continuity.

The ARC recognises the extensive knowledge and experience, and industry insight, of these members who are at the forefront of the Australian higher education, research, and business sector.
