City of Darwin will commence works next week to reconstruct the Aralia Street and Banksia Street intersection roundabout as part of its ongoing investment in improving the municipality's road network.
The intersection requires reconstruction to renew the road pavement, roundabout and traffic islands to improve the condition of the intersection and extend the life of the roundabout.
Lord Mayor Peter Styles said maintaining and improving local roads remained a key priority for City of Darwin.
"City of Darwin is committed to investing in essential infrastructure that supports a safe, connected and accessible community," Mr Styles said.
"This project will deliver a long-term solution for the Aralia Street and Banksia Street intersection, improving the condition of the road network and extending the life of this important asset.
"We recognise these works will cause temporary disruption for people who live, work and travel through the area, and we thank the community for their patience and cooperation while construction is underway," he said.
The project forms part of City of Darwin's 2026/27 Road Reconstruction Program, which includes three major projects and a combined investment of $4.45 million.
To safely facilitate construction, the Banksia Street and Aralia Street roundabout will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the works. Local traffic will continue to have access to properties, with detours and traffic management measures in place.
Residents and road users are encouraged to allow additional travel time, plan their journey ahead and follow all traffic management signage and directions from traffic controllers.
Works will commence week commencing 21 September 2026, with completion expected by December 2026, weather permitting.
